NFL Predictions- Week 17

Another year of predictions finished. This year I tried the efficiency ratings to predict the games and it was far better at picking straight up that ATS. Teams with playoff aspirations seemed to project more accurately that the teams that are all up and down. Last week we went 14-2 straight up and 9-7 ATS. That brings the season records to 156-82 and 118-122. With all the backups in this week there probably is not much to take out of any of these results. We’ll be back with the playoffs next week.

Colts (-1.5) over BILLS- Sure the Colts may bench everyone, but even taking that into account they are a far better team than Buffalo. Colts 28 Bills 10

Saints (+1.5) over PANTHERS- Carolina has closed the year out strongly enough that they will be asking the coach to come back. Looks as if Jake Delhomme was more of a problem than they thought. Saints 27 Panthers 21

BROWNS (-1.5) over Jaguars- Can Eric Mangini save his job? Maybe, but that would likely not be in the best interest of the Browns. Jack Del Rio wont even get a passing thought after another bust of a year. Browns 20 Jaguars 13

LIONS (+3.5) over Bears- The way things work in the NFL are funny sometimes. A team can look like a worldbeater one week and then the worst team in the NFL the next. Close game that the Lions might win. Lions 24 Bears 21

Patriots (+7.5) over TEXANS- Texans will be barely alive going into the game and dead as could be after they lose the game. Patriots 24 Texans 21

DOLPHINS (-1.5) over Steelers- Pittsburgh is spending more time complaining about the Colts than they are preparing for a Dolphins team that can be dangerous. Miami was not mature enough to handle the closing of the season, but with the playoff pressure gone will win this one. Dolphins 23 Steelers 21

VIKINGS (-8.5) over Giants- Minnesota desperately needs a good showing on their way into the playoffs and the Giants are a perfect opponent to do it against. Vikings 35 Giants 20

49’ers (-7.5) over RAMS- St. Louis just has no offense and you know the 49er coach will have his team playing hard this week. 49’ers 24 Rams 10

Falcons (-2.5) over BUCCANEERS- Somehow Tampa pulled off the miracle game of the season last week. They will not be so lucky this week. Falcons 35 Buccaneers 13

Packers (+3.5) over CARDINALS- Potential playoff preview here and Green Bay should be favored over a very up and down Cardinal team. Packers 24 Cardinals 20.

Eagles (+2.5) over COWBOYS- Big game for both squads, especially the Eagles who will climb all the way to the 2 seed if they win this game. Very close game that could go either way. Eagles 24 Cowboys 23

Chiefs (+12.5) over BRONCOS- Another year and another meltdown for the Broncos. They should win this game, but somehow the Chiefs will be within striking distance at the end of the game. Broncos 20 Chiefs 13

RAVENS (-10.5) over Raiders - Baltimore at home with the playoffs on the line against a team like Oakland is the lock of the century. Ravens 31 Raiders 3

CHARGERS (-3.5) over Redskins - Washington has completely fallen apart these last two weeks as Albert Haynesworth looks to have torn the team apart. Chargers 28 Redskins 19

SEAHAWKS (+4.5) over Titans- Seattle probably has a bit more to play for this week in a game that means little to either team. Seahawks 26 Titans 20

Bengals (+9.5) over JETS- If the Bengals played their starters this is a game they would likely win by less than a FG. Being that that will likely not play 60 minutes they will probably lose by about that margin. Either way 9.5 is a lot. Jets 17 Bengals 14
