The New York Jets signed first round draft selection DE Muhammad Wilkerson to a 4 year contract worth $6.875 million on July 30, 2011. The contract contains $5.56 million in guarantees. Base salaries of the contract are $375,000(2011), $687,500(2012), $1,000,000(2013), and $1,212,500(2014). Wilkerson received a signing bonus estimated at $3.5 million. As a first round draft selection the Jets will hold a fifth year option on Wilkerson that will be worth the average value of the 3rd through 25th highest paid players at his position in 2014. The option must be picked up following the final game of the 2013 regular season, but before May 4, 2014. The option is guaranteed for injury and becomes fully guaranteed if Wilkerson is on the Jets roster at the start of the 2015 NFL season.
