Playing Time: Jets vs Rams Tweet
Not alot of plays for the offense this week, but that was a matter of field position as much as anything. The big story on offense was the use of Clyde Gates. With Kerley dinged up Gates ended up as the leading receiver for the week with 72% of the snaps. The Jets seem to like him so he may factor into their future plans. The running backs saw their time basically split between the two of them though it was Lex Hilliard that actually saw the most individual snaps in the backfield. Stephen Hill only saw limited action which is fair given how poorly he plays. Its at a point where its good to get him a few plays here and there to get used to things but he doesnt do anything positive. Tim Tebow saw a season low 3 snaps in the win. He played less than Antonio Cromartie on offense. Considering the story that broke this week that had to hurt the QB.
With the Rams playing catchup the Jets had a heavy emphasis on their players in the secondary. Eric Smith logged 71% of the snaps and Ellis Lankster was not far behind. Up front there was a significant amount of rotation among the linebackers and linemen. Bart Scott played in 37% of the snaps, Davis 31%, McIntyre 34%, Pouha 26%, and so on... Ricky Sapp played in 28% of the plays. I think its clear they think he has a more versatile skillset than Aaron Maybin who they released this week. Makes you wonder why they stuck with Maybin for so long if that was the case.
Here are the percent of downs played
by our offense and defense in week 8, plus the cumulative percent of snaps on the year. I also added a new feature which tracks the prior 4 weeks to give a better idea of the direction the playtime is headed for each player:
